Usman Jamshed was born in Doha, Qatar, in 1984, to Pakistani parents. He was raised in a working-class colony, located at the silent harbor, where the barren boatyard stood as a testament to a bygone era. His father who worked for Qatar Electricity and Water Company, and had a hobby of taking photos and preserving family memories in the form of photobooks, enlivened Usman’s sense of observance and writing moments in the form of photos. He moved to Pakistan, continued his schooling, and developed interest in Life Drawing and Art. His father brought a Commodore 64 computer at home, that triggered his interest in computers, that lead to website design. He found his father’s basic camera at home, and later borrowed a 35mm Ricoh SLR from a friend, practiced photography and spent pocket money on film rolls and developing prints, made a website and uploaded his work. He was discovered by Forbes Magazine and several international clients.

He won Ibdaa Media Awards 2008, organized by Dubai Media City and awarded internship by Motivate Publishing / Motivate Media Group. He also won Nikon Photo Contest International 2010-2011. He completed his graphic design degree in 2011, and was garnered prestigious photography awards on national level, representing University of the Punjab, throughout his academic time. During his degree, he established an independent photography studio and named it UJ Studio. Usman’s signature photojournalistic style, blending light with life, drama of ambiance and subject, has been widely recognized in Lifestyle, Culture & Heritage, Industrial, Product, Corporate & Personality photography.
